For the pizza dough:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the chimichurri sauce:
- 1 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the toppings:
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
- 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Preparing the Pizza Dough
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
Add the warm water and olive oil, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
Making the Chimichurri Sauce
In a bowl, combine the chopped parsley, minced garlic, red wine vinegar, olive oil, and red pepper flakes.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Mix well and set aside to let the flavors meld.
Assembling and Baking the Pizza
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to fit your pizza pan or stone.
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
Arrange the sliced tomatoes and red onions on top.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
The Final Touch
Remove the pizza from the oven.
