Equipment

  • Large Bowl
  • Pizza Peel
  • Pizza Cutter

Ingredients

For the Pizza Dough:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Chimichurri Sauce:

  • 1 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh oregano, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Pizza Toppings:

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup black olives, sliced (optional)

Instructions

Preparing the Pizza Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
  • In a separate small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients.
  • Mix everything together until it forms a shaggy dough.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
  • Pro tip: While your dough is rising, it's the perfect time to prepare your chimichurri sauce and other toppings!

Making the Chimichurri Sauce

  • In a medium bowl, combine the chopped parsley, oregano, and minced garlic.
  • Add the olive oil and red pepper flakes.
  • Mix everything together well.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Let the sauce sit for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Assembling and Baking the Pizza

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • Once your dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to fit your pizza pan or baking sheet.
  • Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges for the crust.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
  • Arrange the halved cherry tomatoes, sliced red onions, and olives (if using) over the cheese.
  • Drizzle about half of the chimichurri sauce over the toppings.
  • Bake the pizza for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
  • Drizzle the remaining chimichurri sauce over the hot pizza before slicing and serving.
